SmartSense-800 Paperless Vital Signs
Description
Patients' vital signs - temperature, blood pressure, pulse,
respiration and pain data can now be recorded directly into a
wireless portable device (e.g. tablet PC) and wirelessly updated
to the central Electronic Medical Record (EMR) server (via WiFi)
after each measurement. The data will then be automatically
plotted on to a digital chart.
With this system, nurses do not have to manually plot the
patient chart anymore. This would reduce the cumbersome
paperwork practice in most hospitals. No more paper clutter and
untidy scribbles, transferring of records from the papers to the
computer system and filing of patients' records. More
importantly, retrieval of accurate patients' vital signs records
can be performed with just a few mouse clicks anytime, anywhere
in the hospital. This will definitely reduce unnecessary man
hours and shelf space and improves efficiency too.
Doctors can efficiently monitor the patients’ latest vital signs
and history charts anytime, anywhere. Automatic alerts via SMS/Email
can also be configured to inform the doctors when patients’
vital signs readings go out of range. This not only reduces the
amount of phone communication between doctors and nurses, it
also improves the care coordination ratings of the hospital.
These are made possible with SmartSense-800™ paperless vital
signs module, the first step towards a digital paperless
hospital.

To enhance patient care...
By simply adding on ThermoSENSOR-800™s
(wireless temperature sensor), VitalSENSOR-800™s (wireless blood
pressure/pulse sensing device) and SmartNODE-525™ (portable
card-like RFID receivers) to the paperless vital signs module,
patient care can be tremendously enhanced.
Patients will be pasted with a
ThermoSENSOR-800™ on the lower abdomen and will wear a
VitalSENSOR-800™ around the arm. These devices will
automatically and wirelessly send patients’ temperature/blood
pressure/pulse values to SmartNODE-525™. Nurses can now obtain
patients' temperature values without touching the patients. They
simply have to bring in the card-like receivers into the
patients’ rooms to receive the temperature values. Thus,
patients will benefit by having uninterrupted rest.
To reduce MORE nurses' workload...
To enhance the system further,
SmartNODE-800™ (wireless RFID receivers) can be installed in the
wards to wirelessly and continuously receive the patients' vital
signs. Thus, nurses no longer need to go round the wards to
record patients' vital signs. They can monitor the patients'
vital signs from the nursing station.

Usage Scenario 1
At the ward, the nurses will manually
measure patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and other
vital signs. These vital signs values will be immediately input
into the easy-to-use Paperless Vital Signs Software module via
mobile devices such as tablet PCs and laptops. These values
will then be sent wirelessly via WiFi and saved at the central
EMR server for real-time monitoring by doctors and other
caregivers.

Usage Scenario 2
>> *With
ThermoSENSOR-800™s, VitalSENSOR-800™s and SmartNODE-525™s -
card-like receivers
All in-patients will be pasted with a
ThermoSENSOR-800™ on the lower abdomen and wear a
VitalSENSOR-800™ around their arm. Nurses will enter the ward
at regular intervals (e.g. every 4 hourly) with SmartNODE-525™
to capture and store the patients' temperature, blood pressure
and pulse values. These vital signs values will be downloaded
to the nursing station PC by a simple plug-in process and the
values will be stored in the central EMR server. These values
will be automatically plotted onto a digital chart for doctors'
real-time retrieval, reference and monitoring.

Usage Scenario 3
>> *With ThermoSENSOR-800™s,
VitalSENSOR-800™s and SmartNODE-800™ - installed receivers
All in-patients will be pasted with a
ThermoSENSOR-800™ on the lower abdomen and wear a
VitalSENSOR-800™ around their arm. The devices will
automatically send the patients’ temperature, blood pressure and
pulse values to the central server throughout their stay in the
hospital. Nursing staff will monitor their patients’ vital signs
at the nurse station. These stations will alert the nurses when
the vital signs went out of the desired range by audible or
visual alert display on the screen.
