SmartSense-800 Vital Signs Module
Description
Imagine an environment whereby patients'
vital signs (temperature, blood pressure and pulse) values can
be recorded and uploaded automatically to the central
(Electronic Medical Record) server. This would reduce the
cumbersome paperwork practice in most hospitals. No more manual
recording of patients' vital signs on papers, transferring of
records from the papers to the computer system and filing of
patients' records. More importantly, retrieval of accurate
patients' vital signs records can be performed with just a few
mouse clicks anytime, anywhere in the hospital. These are made
possible with SmartSense-800™ vital signs module. This module
not only helps to reduce unnecessary man hours and shelf space,
it eliminates human errors and improves efficiency too.
With SmartSense-800™ vital signs module,
patients will benefit by having uninterrupted rest especially
after surgery, as their vital signs can be measured
automatically. Nurses no longer need to go through the tedious,
repetitive and manual process of taking patients' temperatures,
blood pressure and pulse. They also do not need to chart the
vital signs values on papers and transferring the information
manually to the hospital information system. The charting and
updating of vital signs values can now be updated automatically.
At the same time, nurses’ welfare is also improved: The
possibility of incurring unkind remarks or experiencing tantrums
from patients due to inconvenience and annoyance felt by
patients during manual vital signs monitoring can be reduced.
Doctors can efficiently monitor the patients’ latest temperature
and history charts anytime and anywhere. They can also be
immediately alerted if patients' vital signs values go out of
its normal range. This helps to improve the hospital workflow by
reducing the amount of phone communication needed between
doctors and hospital staff. Concurrently, it also improves the
care coordination ratings of the hospital.

Usage Scenario
All in-patients will be pasted with a
ThermoSENSOR-800™ on the lower abdomen and will wear a
VitalSENSOR-800™ around the arm. The devices will automatically
send patients’ temperature/blood pressure/pulse values to the
central server.
Nurses will monitor the vital signs data
from the nursing station. At the same time, nurses and doctors
can also retrieve patients' real-time or history vital signs
data (values and charts) easily from the computer or any
portable devices such as PDA or tablet PCs (as long as it is
connected to the local hospital network).
If patients’ vital signs readings go out
of range, the system will sound an audio alert and display a
visual alert on the screen. Automatic alerts via SMS/Email can
also be configured easily.
