......................................................................................................................... Is
wrist type blood pressure monitor as accurate as arm type?
As
the arteries in the arm are connected to those in the wrist, the arm blood
pressure reading has a direct relationship with the wrist reading. Clinical
research has shown such direct relationship.

Why
are my readings inaccurate?
(A) Check your Measurement Position
To obtain accurate readings, it is essential to position the blood
pressure monitor at the heart level during the measurement process.
Otherwise, your blood pressure readings may be higher or lower than
your actual readings.
(B)
Check the Wearing Method
The LCD screen should be aligned with the palm.
The wrist cuff should be ½ inch away from the bottom of your palm.
(C)
Other Factors
Measure your blood pressure from the same wrist to ensure comparability of
readings, as readings taken from the left wrist may differ from those taken
from the right wrist. *Left wrist is preferred.
Avoid talking, remain seated in a relaxed position, breath normally and
avoid moving during the measurement process when the cuff is deflating or
inflating.
Wait for about 3 minutes between measurements to allow the blood vessels to
return to normal. Note that the waiting time between measurements may
vary from person to person.
Avoid taking measurements when you feel anxious, tense or stressful, as your
blood pressure is likely to rise during these moments.
Avoid eating, exercising, bathing, smoking, and avoid taking alcohol,
caffeine or tea for at least 30 minutes before measurement. Rest
for at least 10 minutes before measurement.
A single measurement does not give an accurate indication of your true blood
pressure value, so try and take several measurements over a period of time.
Take your readings at the same time of each day to ensure consistency in the
measurements. Blood pressure readings may vary at different times of the
day.
